Friends of Youth Association: International tolerance day

English

International tolerance days are occasions to educate the public on issues of concern, to mobilize political will and resources to address global problems and to celebrate and reinforce the achievements of humanity. The existence of international days predates the establishment of the United Nations on 16 November 1996.

The closing ceremony was held in the Synagogue in Maribor, announcing the winners of the competition »100 People 100 Miracles«, which has been performed for the tenth consecutive year at the Friends of Youth Association of Maribor. This year’s competition was held on the topic Jews are, and the best authors will take part in a two-day trip to Poland with a tour of Krakow and Auschwitz concentration camp. At the closing event, we watched a short documentary, Surviving in Sarajevo, Talking about the Coexistence of Jews, Muslims, and Catholics, Listened to the Vice President of the Jewish Community of Slovenia, dr. Igor Vojtic and tasted fantastic sweets made according to Jewish recipes. They were 295 entries, and the winning slogan came from Maša Petrič and Nika Goričan »Life is not a fist, it is an open hand, waiting to be submitted to another.«

Ob zaključni prireditvi smo si ogledali kratek dokumentaren film, Preživeti v Sarajevu, ki govori o sožitju judov, muslimanov in katoličanov, prisluhnili podpredsedniku Judovske skupnosti Slovenije dr.
